Pipes in stainless steel and other high grade materials
are often difficult to source when not dealing in Mill
quantities, and bespoke sizes not produced as standard
rely on the importing of formed pipes mainly from Southern
Europe.
The only UK supplier of formed and welded pipes Bentham
International ceased production in 2000 due to reducing
orders and increased competition, leaving a void in the
UK supply chain. Now however Angle Ring of Tipton has
purchased and installed machinery from Bentham International
and is intending to ensure bespoke pipe forming has a
home in the UK.
Angle Ring is a leading supplier of specialist bending
services to the engineering and construction industries
and has been offering a range of steel bending processes
for over 50 years.
Angle Ring are well known for their work in the structural
market due to the high profile in the press of prestigious
projects such as the recently opened new bridge over the
Riffer Liffey in Dublin which featured 368mm diameter
tubes with a massive 80mm wall thickness curved to create
large arches spanning the river.
The manufacturing equipment and production expertise of
Bentham International was relocated to Angle Ring s
Tipton facility and the pipe forming operation commenced
in earnest in July 2002. The production equipment includes
three press brakes up to 1200 tonne capacity with 10 metre
bed: an edge planer for plates also up to 10 metres long:
together with 10 metre SAF welding beams, equipped with
plasma, TIG and submerged arc welding for the longitudinal
seam closure of pipes.
Mr Barry Stone, former Bentham Production and Development
Director moved from his base in Gloucester with the machinery
taking with him many years of experience and expertise.
Barry, who is known throughout the industry now oversees
production of pipes and is on hand to discuss all technical
enquiries and aspects of production with interested customers.
Pipes in standard and specialist materials, formed in
plate thickness from 3 to 200mm and lengths up to 10 metres
can now be supplied. Standard or special pipe diameters
are produced to current ASTM, ASME and BS specifications,
suitable for use in the oil, gas and petrochemical industries
or industries where hollow tubular sections are used.
All welding is carried out to ASME IX Boiler and Pressure
Vessel Codes and BSEN 287/288 approved procedures or to
clients own welding specifications. Work is carried-out
to comply with tight or extended delivery schedules.
Materials available for pipe manufacture include Austenitic
stainless steels, together with Duplex, Super-Duplex and
Nickel alloys. Carbon steels including low alloy and high
strength carbon variations can also be accommodated, together
with other ferrous and non-ferrous materials including
aluminium, copper, brass, titanium and bronze.
Alan Kilkenny, Business Development manager at Angle Ring,
stated, All products are produced to close tolerances,
with full QA support and documentation, with welding carried
out to Lloyds approved welding procedures. Ultrasonic
wall thickness measurement, radiography of longitudinal
and circumferential welds, surface crack detection and
heat treatment services are also provided as necessary.
The installation of the press braking machinery was the
final piece in the jigsaw for our bending services, and
an unparalleled range of sections, bar tube and plate
can now be offered .
Angle Ring also offer cold rolling and induction bending
of pipe work, including small or long radius and even
including non-circular bends, with high accuracy and limited
deformation in pipes up to 30 metres in length. |
